Huh.

Whoa, it looks like you got bombed pretty badly. Was 1.84, now it's 2.34.
This isn't so bad, it's just not my taste. The beat was pretty good, but the darkish ambient sounds in the back didn't really suit most of the song.
I mostly liked the beginning, kind of like a plain hamburger until later you realize there's some veggies in it.
Everything was perfect in general; it's just it's not so catchy :\

Bracksta responds:

ya really i made this song a long time ago, like 2 years. So i was young and dumb. Thanks for the review man, it is always appriciated.

Wow..

I love the beginning. The melody was very nice and sweet, however I'm going to have to say that there was too much damp pedal. The damp, reverb effect was a little too much.
The the beat came in at a good time. Nice and relaxing, just flowing with the sounds. Perfect music for when I space out.
Ha, sad excuse for a lack of inspiration. What the hell is that supposed to mean? I love your little description :D This piece touched me. I think it's the repetitiveness that I loved the most, and how those small sounds come to add in nicely, just finding their way in. Living life:)

VegetarianMeat responds:

Yeah, I always tend to go a bit overboard with the reverb :P

I added in the bit about sad excuse for lack of inspiration because I know there's going to be some people who complain about it being repetitive, probably more so than some of my other submissions. I'm glad you liked the song; thanks for the review :)

Overall, I get the feel.

The only problem is that sometimes, a lot of the notes (mostly the slightly repeating lower keys) don't seem to match up, as if unintentional.
The reverbing on the piano is good, though. This had an okay feel on me. I agree with Musical-Pants on the dark castle theme, but a bit lighter because sometimes the piano arps went out of key, and it wasn't as pleasant.
Lol, now I feel like I have this creepy dark feeling in my room.

sarias responds:

its all intentional the disonance of the un matching ness causes it to have that mysteriousness.

Patrick!

You've got a 10 on this one, buddy! It mostly goes for sheer originality and being absolutely brilliant. I'm telling you, my friend: One day, you will be known as the Great Composer of Classical Awesomeness.
:D
The little piano solo drama part that Homero mentioned doesn't necessarily need anything there. I think it sounds wonderful. It's a nice, strong burst. Very..epicish. :D
You know, I always had disliked the horn for some reason..but in this song you have successfully changed that. Speaking of the horn, when the piece reaches 20 seconds, it seems to get a little too loud. Not much, as this is my 5th or 6th time listening :D So I tend to over-scrutinize. Of course, that happens when I make my own pieces--by the time I submit my piece I'm almost sick of it! :O

I can't give enough praise for this..it's sort of struck something in me, if that doesn't sound weird enough.. \=)
It has a very unique feel to it, yet I know it belongs in some elite Central European classical categorey xD I'm overdoing the tiny details. Haha I did this to cycerin, too. Sorry if my first impressions are too long, but I'm just trying to let you know that I am absolutley amazed :D

pathock3 responds:

Hey! lol nice review. I think I could get used to a title like that... let's see.... overall I would agree that the soloists overpower the piano. The piano part is pretty well written if I do say so myself, so it should feel more like a duet rather than a solo with an accompaniment. So I would agree with that. For the piano solo part, I'm glad you thought that it was good, but I'll look it over because it definitely needs some tweaking. I'm always happy when people think a song is as good as I think it is... lol thanks Vesta.

Ha, cheesy? It does remind of me songs from 99-03.

I always admired those slow fade-outs, I used to get annoyed when songs had very small fadeouts or none :D?
This does have the same feel as Instrumental #4 to me, a nice relaxed vibe, but slowly energy building. Something I'd probably use to wake myself up in the morning if I fell asleep on time.
I loved the guitar and its mellowness; those soft guitar sounds I always fall for :D
For some reason I actually picture myself at a college campus (which for some reason this song causes me to think BACK, not into the future), but one more secluded. Somewhere in the mid-east--maybe North Carolina or Virginia. I don't know. It's the trees-ish, mid-north feeling.
The synths were a little repetitive and I couldn't hear much bass, that's about the only thing I have for constructive criticism. I forgive you, but still I highly doubt anyone will vote unfavorably on this. I mean come on, 85 votes and nearly 4.70 !
All in all though, it's another successful piece bound to be found high on NG's charts ;)
Peace

Reasoner responds:

Well it was written on a college campus.....so maybe......eh I dont know. Thanks for the great review again friend.

O_O

I think this is definitely one of my favorite tracks from you.
The beginning starts out intriguing, and it goes straight into a great melody. The bass notes are in the lead, letting the rest of the melody follow right along. And the beat is creative and suitable to this very piece.
It's very cute and meaningful in my kind of way, I love what you did with this piece. The only thing I didn't necessarily like was how it ended. Did you wrap it?
Anyway, this lifted my spirits plenty, plus your mini creation story up there made me smile :D
For some reason, straight from the beginning, I suddenly imagined this as a main menu song for my favorite cute comedy, that had every touch of seriousness to it anyway--the DVD that I just bought yesterday and have been dying to watch, so I pull it out and stick it in the DVD player, flop on my couch and hit the button. (I doubt this such movie will ever come out..it's all in my head )
I think my favorite part is when it got nice and simple, but all cute and irresistable :48 - 1:03 or something.
And I swear to you, if I ever get Flash (I'm really hoping :D), I am going to make one hell of a cute little movie (or long), make sure it's the perfectest job ever, make sure the animations are good and everything, and I will use this very loop as my main menu song. I have set my mind on it.
--*I've got my mind set on you*--
Haha that just entered my head.
Sorry for the non-making senseness of some sentences, but this is how I get when I hear an ultimate!! :D:D:D <3

cycerin responds:

Another wall of text from you, what a FUCKING TRAVESTY ARGH nah kidding I love to read this shit. I'm glad you have the guts to even write so much about your impressions, I wish more people did it.

Yeah, I wrapped the ending. Get flash. Make it. I want to see it. :]

Another excellent addition to the ambience section

Dragon down there took the words out of my mouth.
The piano feel to it was soothing, relaxing. The synths in the background were nice and mellow.
This song has pretty much the same feel to it as most of your other songs. I think I like this the best because of its simplicity, yet complicatedness. The strings in the background always serve well to shape up the already perfect piano playing.

Also, I know what you mean with the lot of ideas sitting in some folder or another. My hard drive's getting fuller each day--I have so many ideas so often, I create something almost every other day, haha. Of course, it stays there until several months later when I'm actually done with it and some other stuff..

Again, great job, I am very impressed yet again. I'm glad for your inspiration, too. Interesting title, also.

Reasoner responds:

My good friend Vesta is back with another stellar review. Thanks for coming back again, and congrats on your one of your own submissions getting up there on the ambient charts.

I see what you mean by your love of the piano.

It is a beautiful piece; it follows the same style as your previous songs. It has a gentle flow to it, like it's taking me somewhere. Very sweet, that's what I like about your pieces :)
By the way, I'D love to see you in that little musicbox ;D LOL
-Vesta J

pathock3 responds:

Yeah, I feel really comfortable with this one style, smooth piano stuff. I try to branch out sometimes but it's really just as an exercise; I know where my true talent lies.
Peace.

First submission, eh?

Sometimes it seemed they was an error or two, the sound of a couple of pianos coming together horribly. It was only once or twice, though.
Nice short piece. Maybe up the volume a bit? Toward the end, it got a little odd.. and the very few last notes confused me a little at the keys it ended at. Sounded like the story changed a slight, eh?
-Vesta J

pathock3 responds:

Yes. And you know why that is? Because the backgrounds are the same for the entire piece. When things get more intense people fail to notice it, but it really is. A low note is hit on beat 1, then a big chord held for 2, 3, and 4. The result of this is that when I have the melody maybe playing a 1 then M7 (half step apart), they are actually synthesized in the same octave, creating unappealling dissonance that would be less obtrusive if seperated by a 7th.
Nobody likes the end! I like the end! lol complain all you want but im keeping it.

I love the cello.

It was a genereally beautiful piece. I love the soft, mellow tone to it.
What you might want to do is louden the piano a bit, it's a tad too soft to be heard nicely. Plus it makes the cello tiring after a while.
I love when the two cellos come together.
I play the bass, I hope to switch to the cello next year :)
Nice ending, by the way. Sweet little piece. I think your girlfriend will appreciate this. I can so see it--you composing, she playing :)
-Vesta J

pathock3 responds:

You would give it a 9. Ruining my perfect 10 streak! lol imma jk. To be honest, I think a lot of what you didn't like can be fixed in a different recording I have saved in WAV format, therefore incompatible with Newgrounds. I had to settle for the lesser mp3 version.

*Note to all that take the time to read review responses: A superior recording can be obtained by providing me with your email address and asking for it. It really is a very different sound.

Specifically, the piano is louder and has a much better ring to it, making it sound much less synthesized. The cello is more expressive sometimes, although the only complaint that can be made is that the cello is a little awkwardly inconsistent in the way it plays some notes... but overall I like it much better. Yes, cello, the beautiful, mellow string instrument. I respect all of its players. Ah, so you liked the ending this time! Yeah, me too. At least the piano part. The synthesized cello sounds a little funny... I sure hope she plays it. I can play most of the piano part, so that'd be pretty cool... I can dream at least.
Thanks a lot Vesta
